Your boss may want you to think that all success comes down to hard work. Unfortunately, climbing the career ladder at a large organization has more to do with politics than it does with an employee’s qualifications or their track record of success. Nepotism and other forms of favoritism leave the average worker without a path to career advancement while the connected prosper with little opposition. Just like our political system, climbing the corporate ladder throws an ‘everyday joe’ obstacles that are extremely difficult to overcome. The bureaucracy, special favors and behind the back side deals are all going against you. Achieving financial success, or your own personal financial freedom, feels like climbing Mt. Everest.
The American people had a front row seat to blatant favoritism this past summer during the nomination process for the Democratic Party presidential candidate. The contest had two legitimate challengers for the role: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the wife of former Democratic president Bill Clinton, and an independent governor from the State of Vermont, Bernie Sanders.
The news media made it very well-known from the onset of the 2016 election cycle that Hillary Clinton would be the next president of the United States. After all, she would have already occupied the Oval Office were it not for the sudden emergence of Barack Obama in 2008. In the eyes of the elite, there was no better choice to lead America forward and to continue the work that Barack Obama had started.
The average Democrat was not so easily convinced. Many had serious concerns regarding Clinton’s connections to Wall Street and special interests. Others worried about how Clinton’s political baggage dating back to her husband’s affair with a White House staffer would provide too much political ammunition to the Right.
These Democrats found an alternative in Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders had a proven track record of fighting for causes that Democrats believe in. In contrast to Secretary Clinton, Sanders understood that the “top one percent of one percent” were to blame for income in equality, which in turn drives a majority of the economic and social problems within the United States. Sanders promised to commit his administration to removing power from the elites in society and returning that power to the American people.
His messages resonated with many Democrats. His rallies drew thousands upon thousands of excited voters ready to help America change for the better. Sanders and his supporters soon realized that no amount of support would be sufficient to win the Democratic Party’s nomination. Ironically, the Democratic Party’s nominating system is not democratic at all.
Instead, the party’s nominee is chosen in practice by a group of party officials known as “super delegates”. Despite Sanders’ victories in several key states, the delegates from those states would not lend Sanders their support. The party had instructed these delegates to support their favorite candidate, Clinton, and effectively block the Sanders campaign from capturing the party’s nomination.
Sanders himself raised the issue on the campaign trail, only to be dismissed as crazy by the same media and political party that was actively campaigning for his opponent. Not long after Clinton had been declared the winner of the primary, a well-known information website known as Wikileaks released a collection of over 20,000 e-mails that it had acquired.
These e-mails were sent between members of the Democratic National Committee (the organization responsible for conducting the Democratic primaries) between January 2015 and May 2016. It didn’t take long for the e-mails to prove what many, including Sanders himself, had come to understand months prior: the Democratic Party had actively worked to win the primary for Hillary Clinton.
Many were shocked to see how the Democratic Party referred to the Sanders campaign and his supporters behind the scenes. From the Party’s perspective, Sanders and his supporters were only an obstacle to Clinton and her inevitable White House bid. Sanders and his platform was never going to be seriously considered, regardless of his success on the campaign trail.
While the DNC’s chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, was ultimately made to resign as a result of the scandal, Sanders was still denied a chance at a fair primary process. Unfortunately, too many hard working employees suffer the same fate at their jobs. While they may be the most knowledgeable and hardest working employee in the department, management has already tapped a well-connected employee to promote.
The parallels between the treatment of Sanders and the average worker are incredible. Despite a strong combination of potential and proven success, those without connections to the elite simply cannot win inside of a system that has been setup to prevent the rise of outsiders.
Seeing as Sanders was an Independent to begin with (he is not an official member of the Democratic Party), many of his supporters urged him to launch an independent candidacy for the White House in 2016. While Sanders entertained the possibility for a short period of time, in the end he decided to go the easy route. Sanders gave up is fight against a system he correctly identified as corrupt during the primary.
Too many workers today are doing the same in the professional world. Many are resigned to maintaining the status quo. It’s easy to keep doing the same thing over and over. Change is difficult. Change takes time. Change can be scary. Furthermore, how do you walk away from a paycheck every 1st and 15th of the month, only to take the plunge into the home business blueprint unknown? In the case of Sanders, he knew that many would question his sanity had he chose to run for president as an independent. Political commentators have stated that it is virtually impossible to be elected to the highest office in the land without the support of one of the two major political parties. His run would also further complicate the success of Hillary Clinton and could possibly land the Republican challenger, Donald Trump, a spot in the Oval Office. For Sanders, the risks associated with such a bold move were simply too much for him to take on.
For the average worker, choosing to quit a regular nine to five job is similarly daunting. More often than not, choosing to start your own business means giving up a steady pay check and benefits. The consequences of such a decision can be very steep if you’re single. What happens if you don’t have money to pay the rent or buy groceries? This problem becomes multiplied if you have a partner or children that count on you to take care of their needs. The more financial responsibilities that rest on your shoulders, the idea of starting an online home business becomes increasingly more difficult …and a lot scarier.
At the same time, you know that you are incredibly talented. You’re a hard worker and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to become successful and live the life that you’ve always dreamed of. You sit in your cubicle every day imagining what it might feel like to rid yourself of the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle. You understand that there’s more to life than just scraping to survive. There’s definitely a huge risk with the concept of starting a home based business, but the reward and opportunity can be pretty spectacular. Before you start daydreaming of all the great things, you need to come back to reality and understand that it takes hard work and determination to become successful.
Unlike Bernie Sanders, you still have the opportunity to take a chance on your own. He didn’t get a ‘re-do’ or the chance to start over with the campaign. You can begin your quest towards financial freedom today. By starting a home based business, you’re no longer held back by office politics that keep you from getting that raise or promotion you know you deserve. No longer will your management team be able to shut down your innovative ideas that are sure to move the company forward. You control your destiny and YOU generate the opportunity in front of you. If you step back and think about that for a second, that way of growing within your career, sounds unreal. The cool thing is that it’s not far fetched. Anyone..and I mean, anyone can do it. If you haven’t heard, read or seen anything from Gary Vaynerchuk, you need to do so immediately. The man is intense, brutally honest and absolutely real when it comes to self motivation and your career. The moral of his story: you have GOT to LOVE what you’re doing and you have GOT to WORK your ass off.
By taking the leap and starting a home based business of your own, you can finally work the way you want, when you want, how you want. You can be free to innovate and bring your unique talents and skills to a world that is waiting to enjoy all that you have to offer. Best of all, you will be able to reap the full reward of the hard work that you put into your business each and every day.
Is a home business unconventional? Some might say so, yes. Would an independent run at the White House have been unconventional? Absolutely. Those in charge of the present system hope that the fear of the unknown will keep talented people like Senator Sanders and yourself from being bold and disrupting the status quo.
The potential for success is within you. By starting your own home based business, you will break off the restrictions that working in a corporate environment has placed on you. Instead of working for someone else in a dead end job, there are no more limits on what you can achieve. The future is as bright as your imagination and then some. Dare to dream the future you want for yourself and your loved ones and then chase it down until that dream becomes your reality.
You’ve been held down by your surroundings for too long. Your cubicle has become a ball and chain. Your employer owns you as long as you depend on your job to keep a roof over your head and food on the table. That can all end today.
Say goodbye to frustration. Say goodbye to that job you hate. Say goodbye to a management team that discredits all that you have to offer. You’re not in a place where you can grow.
Believe in yourself. Head out on your own. You have what it takes to grow a home based business into financial independence and a whole new world for you and your loved ones. What are you waiting for? Be bold. Be brave. Take the plunge and change your world.
